January 5, 2019

You’re setting up your heavy duty shelving system. You have many options for materials and suppliers. What is your best choice? To know the answer to this, you must first know the differences between your various options. So, what is the difference between Husky racking and wire pallet racking?

Both of these racking styles are used in industrial settings to create sturdy storage systems. However, each offers different advantages and is appropriate for different solutions. Here’s the scoop on these products. Use this guide to determine which is best for your setting.

Husky Racking

Husky racking offers superior quality and is a trusted name in the industry. The complete line offers a variety of sizes, colors and features. Husky offers:

  • Beam capacities of up to 10 tons
  • Lengths from 44 to 168 inches
  • The Invincible Rack, which exceeds OSHA requirements
  • Upright frame heights from six to 46 feet and depths from 24 to 72 inches
  • Modifications for seismically active areas and other special capacities and sizes
  • Double post and reinforced frames
  • Beams adjustable every two inches
  • Teardrop pattern—this is an industry standard. The beams feature a safety clip that ensure the beam cannot
  • be removed, but it does not require any special tools to remove the clip.
  • A variety of colors, including green, orange, yellow, red, beige and white
  • The capabilities to create a variety of supported structures and modules to meet any storage need

Wire Pallet Racking

This style of racking is used in certain situations to prevent products from falling through the rack structure. The wire mesh offers a protective screening to keep small items safely in place. Its typical features include:

  • Various thicknesses of mesh to provide the appropriate dimensions for the products and pallets being stored
  • Easy identification of stored contents
  • U-shaped channel supports (struts)
  • Waterfall decking—wire mesh that extends across and down the front of the beam. This provides additional support.
  • Lay-in decking—wire mesh that rests inside the step of the beam
  • Prevention of dirt and debris accumulation due to the holes in the mesh

Pallet Rack Systems

Whether you choose Husky racking or wire pallet racking, you will probably choose one of the top three pallet rack systems. Either racking choice works for all of these methods.

  • Push-back pallet rack systems: These are organized by depth rather than width. Aisle space is reduced and storage density is increased. Each pallet is stored on wheeled carts and each bay is up to six pallets deep.
  • Drive-in pallet rack systems: These allow you to drive the forklift into the bay at one end.
  • Drive-through pallet rack systems: These also allow you to drive the forklift into the bay, but you can access it at both ends.
